Unit xx. Key algorithms – I’m a software analyst
Details
This unit is planned but development has not yet started. Our plans may change in the future as we continue to review our scheme of learning.
Unit description
How computers search, sort, route and recommend.
Unit career
I’m a software analyst
“As a software analyst, I need a basic understanding of how computers achieve goals for a purpose. This includes modern applications of searching, sorting, routing and recommending content on devices and online platforms. My goal is to analyse and improve software processes to enhance efficiency and performance.”
Key Question
All the activities in this unit enable students to answer the key question:
How do computers use different types of algorithms to search, sort, and recommend information efficiently?
Knowledge statements
This is achieved by students studying 4 “Learn-it” lessons, each of which focus on one knowledge statement:
- Know how computers search for data/files and the common applications of searching.
- E.g. linear search, binary search, find & replace, file search.
- Know how computers sort files and the common applications of sorting.
- E.g. bubble sort, merge sort, organising playlists of songs.
- Know how algorithms recommend content to users.
- E.g. how YouTube videos are recommended.
- Know that some algorithms can be more efficient than others even if they all work.
