“As a network administrator, I manage and maintain an organisation’s computer networks. This involves configuring network hardware, monitoring network performance, ensuring network security, and troubleshooting any issues that arise. My goal is to ensure that the network runs smoothly and efficiently, supporting the organisation’s operations and communication needs.”
Key Question
All the activities in this unit enable students to answer the key question:
How do the parts of a home network work together to connect devices securely and allow us to access the internet?
Knowledge statements
This is achieved by students studying 4 “Learn-it” lessons, each of which focus on one knowledge statement:
- Know the basic components of a home computer network.
- E.g. interface card to provide Wi-Fi or Ethernet connectivity, switch, router & Wi-Fi repeater.
- Know how each component functions and their roles in enabling network connectivity and communication.
- Know the importance of network security measures to protect against unauthorised access and threats.
- Know the basics of how the internet works.

- 4 “Learn-it” lessons with a teacher PowerPoint and student workbook.

- Any additional resources and materials needed for the activities are provided in the lesson folders.
- 6 detailed lesson plans explaining how to teach the 3 lesson phases.
- Extension activities with model answers.
- 3 independent homework question sheets supported by 3 online videos hosted on Tella.
