“As a business analyst I change data into information. This includes working with spreadsheets to make calculations and present data in visual charts for other people. My goal is to give meaning to data.”

All the activities in this unit enable students to answer the key question:
How can software be used to effectively format, calculate and visualise data sets?
Knowledge statements
This is achieved by students studying 4 “Learn-it” lessons, each of which focus on one knowledge statement:
- Know that cells can be formatted in different ways depending on the data they are showing.
- E.g. decimal places, currency & date.
- Know how to insert new data and format a sheet to make it easier to read.
- E.g. inserting rows, headers, table designs & borders.
- Know that formulas should be used to automate calculations to make recalculation of new data quicker.
- E.g. =a*b, sum, average & count.
- Know how to make and format charts from data.
- E.g. bar for comparing categories, pie for percentages, line for trends.
